Sweatshop producer and co-writer Ted Geoghegan was joined with associate producer John Torrani at the New York City Horror Film Festival at the Tribeca Cinemas Sunday, November 22 to accept the award for Best Special Effects on behalf of the Sweatshop effects team.
The film screened at the Tribeca cinemas just two days earlier to a packed house, turning away dozens of horror fans who had been standing in line for an hour in hopes of catching the film.
Screening before the feature were a number of short horror/sci-fi films, including Attackazoids Deploy!!, Sinkhole, Wheels of Death, Hunger, and Death In Charge.
When Sweatshop began to a pounding industrial beat, twirling glow sticks illuminated the darkened theater, followed by roaring cheers for every moment of blood and carnage.
Afterward, audience members and Sweatshop cast and crew mingled in the adjoining lounge where free “retro” Sweatshop posters were signed and handed out.
Other feature films that played the festival included Must Love Death, Maidenhead, Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, and The Revenant, which became the only other feature to win awards.
The Sweatshop effects team honored included special effects artists Kristi Boul, Marcus Koch, Mike Oliver, and visual effects supervisor Stacy Davidson. Davidson also co-wrote and directed the movie.
